According to Thurrott, internal documents reveal some of the Microsoft plans regarding the future of Surface. According to the report, the Surface Pro 6 is currently known as Carmel, the recently reported low-cost tablet carries the Libra name, and the company is still planning to deliver the Andromeda device. In addition, the report claims that the next version of Surface Pro (Carmel) is in development, but the internal documents don’t specify a release date. On the other hand, the new tablet carrying the Libra name is schedule to arrive sometime in 2018, but it’s likely that it will release close to the end of the year. As for the Andromeda device, the report says that the pocketable device (not a phone) still on track to be released in 2018. Also, it’s expected that after this new category of computing device comes out, other PC manufacturers will follow releasing similar hardware. One thing to keep in mind is that these documents were introduced while Terry Myerson was still the Executive Vice President of Microsoft, which means that with Myerson leaving the company, these plans could change significantly. However, if the company keeps its original plans, it’ll be an exciting wave of new products that could help the Surface brand to stay relevant.
