The South Korean electronics company is listening to customers and these two new models have a greater build quality and they only bundle the necessary software and less crapware, but of course, what really differentiate this product from the competition is the curved screen on the Galaxy S6 Edge. Design: Samsung has made a move to a more premium feel device. The materials have completely changed, now the company is using Gorilla Glass 4 for both, front and back of the device, and the frame is made of aluminum. Gone is the criticized plastic shell that customers have complained in the past. The downside is that users will no longer have a removable back, therefore no more microsSD. The company will offer fixed storage version of the phones, including 32, 64, and 128GB. It’s also interesting to see, but it is not surprising that Microsoft will offer 100GB of OneDrive storage for two years to help people move to cloud services. Also people will no longer have a removable battery and the devices will no longer be water resistant like the previous generation. Users will be giving up some of the functionality, but consumers will be getting a more premium feel product similar to the iPhone 6. In comparison with the previous generation these new phones are narrow and thinner. There are four colors for each model: black, white, platinum gold, and topaz blue for the Galaxy S6; and black, white, platinum gold, and emerald green for the Galaxy S6 Edge. As the name implies, the Edge model is the one featuring the curved screen in both sides. The speakers have been relocated from the back plate to the bottom edge, which makes sound much clearer and louder. One characteristic feature from the S6 Edge is the flashing colors that can be configured for individual contacts. Camera: The camera in the new Galaxy isn’t a huge improvement found in the previous generation, but the new camera features faster response time taking pictures, auto real-time HDR, optical image stabilization (OIS), 4K video recording, and a fresh new and improved camera app exposing all the settings you’ll ever need. Launching the camera app and taking pictures is much easier, simply double-click the home button and shoot. Multitasking: If taking pictures, watching videos, and mobile payments are some of the things you like to do in your phone. The new Samsung phones are the right upgrade. Both Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge offer a greater control over how you use multiple apps. Now, apps work much like apps will work on a computer, you can resize windows or dock them, something the company is bringing from the Galaxy Note 4. You can easily watch a YouTube video while checking your email, both tasks simultaneously and the phone delivers on the experience. However, these are not the kind of tasks you will spend long period of time doing on a phone. Payments: One unique feature in these new phones is the new Samsung mobile payments capability. Similar to Apple and Google, the South Korean electronics company has a new mobile payment platform, called Samsung pay, and it will allow people to pay in-store purchases directly with their phones. Unlike Apple Pay and Google Wallet, Samsung Pay can process transactions using traditional magnetic stripe readers, which will also benefit businesses, as they don’t have to upgrade any hardware. Sensors: These new devices are packed with sensors, including accelerometer, light, gyroscope, proximity, compass, barometer, fingerprint, hall, and heart rate monitor. Battery: This is the problem with every mobile device, but Samsung claims that both the S6 and S6 Edge will charge faster than the iPhone 6. According to the company, 10 minutes charging is enough to use the phone normally for 4 hours. Reaching 100 percent charge takes half of the time it would take on the Apple’s iPhone 6. Another feature worth pointing out is that both devices come with wireless charging feature built-in. As for availability, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge both will be up for sale on April 10, 2015 in twenty different regions, and more countries will follow in the coming weeks and months.
