Windows 10 Insider Preview build 17035, according to Microsoft, introduces a number of new features for Microsoft Edge, including an option to mute tabs, save EPUB books, and more. Windows 10 adds the Near Share feature to share content with nearby devices using Bluetooth. There are improvements on Windows Update, Sound and Easy of Access settings. The touch keyboard and handwriting experience get a number of changes, and much more. Alongside all the new changes, Microsoft is noting that there is a bug that make cause a Blue Screen of Death (BSODa) on devices using AMD processors. The company is investigating and working on a fix.

What’s new on Windows 10 build 17035

Microsoft Edge

In this flight the default web browser for Windows 10 is getting a number of small features, including the ability to right-click a tab and mute a it when is producing sound. The audio icon that displays when a tab is playing media is now clickable and will mute the audio that tab is playing when clicked. The tabs audio will unmute when clicked again. If you’re reading a free EPUB book on the web, you can now click the save button to save it on your device. Microsoft Edge also adds a few new options when you right-click books in the Book pane, including “View in Microsoft Store,” “Pin to Start,” and “Refresh books.” Remove from here has been renamed “Remove from device.”

Near Share

Near Share is a new feature that uses Bluetooth to quickly send files and URLs wirelessly to another device that is nearby. If you want to try this feature with another device, you need to make sure that both devices are running Windows 10 build 17035 or later, and from Action Center you need to turn on Near Share. In the case the quick action isn’t immediately visible and your PC has Bluetooth, check if it’s enabled under Settings > Notifications & Actions > “Add or remove quick actions.” Then look for the Share icon in any of your favorite apps, such as Photos, Microsoft Edge, and or even File Explorer (right-click a file and choose Share). When click Share, you’ll see a list of devices nearby, select the one you want to send the file, the recipient will get a notification, which they need to accept to transfer the file.

Settings

In build 17035, Windows 10 is adding a number of improvements to the Settings app.

Windows Update

On Windows Update, it’s now possible to limit the download bandwidth that is used in foreground downloads. If you’re unfamiliar, “foreground downloads” are those when you interactively start a download. For example, when you click on “Check for updates” or start downloading an App from the Microsoft Store.

Sound

Sound settings are now part of the Settings app, which means that now you can change most of the common sound settings in Settings > System > Sound.

Easy of Access

Ease of Access with build 17035 is also getting new sections, including Display, Audio, Speech Recognition, and Eye Control have been added to group related settings. In the Narrator settings page, you’ll now find a setting to control verbosity of text characteristics, and the layout in Color filters settings has been revised to provide filter descriptions.

Touch Keyboard

Starting with Windows 10 build 17035, the touch keyboard is getting Acrylic — the new transparent element part of the Fluent Design System. In addition, the touch keyboard now supports the standard keyboard layout for all languages.

Handwriting panel

In this Windows Insider Preview for the Redstone 4 development adds some slick new animations and changed the button layout of the handwriting panel. Write a letter on top of another, and the panel will recognize the corrections more accurately. Also, you can now use a “split” (vertical line) gesture between two words to create more space between words. Additionally, it’s possible to draw a split gesture inside a word to break apart the word and ink more characters in the new space.

Hardware keyboard

Windows 10 is also adding text suggestions while typing on a hardware keyboard. This is an opt-in feature aimed to English language learners, education and accessibility. Microsoft is only supporting EN-US at this time. If you want to give it a try, make sure English (United States) language is added in Settings > Time & languages > Region & languages, then set this feature to On by enabling the “Show text suggestions as I type on hardware keyboard” setting under Settings > Devices > Typing.

Additional improvements

When the default location is set on your home or office PC, Cortana now knows to show you location-based reminders in the area on your PC. And Cortana Collections now support light theme. Finally, Windows 10 is adding some changes to the Data Usage settings page under Settings > Network & Internet. Download Windows 10 build 17035

Although there are no ISO files for Windows 10 build 17035, the update is available immediately through the Fast ring for PCs and using the Skip Ahead option. This preview build will download and install automatically on your device, but you can always force the update from Settings > Update & security > Windows Update and clicking the Check for updates button.
